Booths heading for MediaCityUK
An award-winning north west company is set to become MediaCityUK’s first retailer.
Peel Media has submitted a planning application to extend a unit under MediaCityUK’s multi-storey car park so that it can become a Booths food store.
A family-run chain renowned for its locally-sourced produce, Booths already operates at 26 locations around the north of England. Its 23,000 sq ft MediaCityUK shop will be the first in Greater Manchester.
The agreement with Booths will be finalised once planning permission is granted. It is proposed that the new store will open during 2011.
Phase 1 of MediaCityUK includes approximately 80,000 sq ft for retail/leisure use. The space will be divided into a range of units across the site, providing shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
Developed and managed by Peel Media, MediaCityUK will be home to around 5,000 workers, students, residents and visitors when Phase 1 – which covers an area equivalent to 18 football pitches – opens in 2011. This includes nearly 2,500 BBC staff, and 700 students and staff from the University of Salford. Research has suggested that MediaCityUK could ultimately accommodate up to 15,500 jobs.
Peel Media recently announced a collaboration with Ascent Media Group to provide a range of services at MediaCityUK and earlier this week launched a new website www.mediacityuk.co.uk and film http://www.youtube.com/officialmediacityuk.
