It might be a hard-hat zone at the moment, but pay a visit to the construction site and it’s already clear what a significant role open space will play at MediaCityUK.
The buildings are all centred around a five-acre public area which gently shelves down to the canal side. Roughly twice the size of Trafalgar Square, this zone is split into two elements: a paved piazza directly in front of the studio block, and a landscaped park containing plenty of greenery.
MediaCityUK’s piazza has been specially designed to provide an outdoor arena capable of accommodating a whole range of different happenings. With enough room for more than 5,000 people and access to a huge screen on the front of the studio block, it will be suitable for everything from concerts to winter markets. We’ve already had discussions with people who want to bring some really exciting events to the piazza, and ultimately we plan on introducing a year-round programme of activity.
The MediaCityUK park will be a relaxing waterside retreat; a place to sit back and watch the world go by. It will also be home to a brand new tram stop, linking you to another great city – Manchester.
