Henner, is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work examines how systems of vision – technological, political, and cultural, shape what we know and believe about the world. Since 2010, Henner has turned to satellites, surveillance feeds, and artificial intelligence as his tools, revealing infrastructures and image networks that operate beyond the human gaze.
Henner presents The Conductor, an artwork connecting audiences to planetary lightning events by transforming atmospheric data into sound and image. The Conductor uses real-time data collected by a global network of sensors and translates every electrical discharge on Earth into a beat, struck by one of seven percussion instruments. Here we see the atmosphere as a stage where nature’s power becomes audible and performative.
The Conductor was developed with a team of musicians, sound artists, acoustics engineers, and costume designers as part of an artist’s residency at Energy House 2.0 at the University of Salford.
