Joe O’Rourke

Joe O’Rourke is an award-winning artist and teacher based in Bankley Studios, Levenshulme. O’Rourke is interested in the emotional responsiveness of the act of painting and its infinite possibilities. Working across multiple scales and media, his paintings are often inspired by chance encounters, such as overheard conversations, observations from a bus window, or objects found.

For BEYOND, Joe has collaborated with artist Lizzie King after meeting during Createch Artist CoLab. His painting ‘I want you here’ will be re-staged and re-explored through Lizzie’s footage of local environments projected onto its surface.

In 2019, he launched the national collaborative painting project ‘Painters Posting Paintings’ and has taught at Edinburgh College of Art, Manchester School of Art and Bolton University.
