In just over two years, Prince’s Trust champion and entrepreneur Carla, has rapidly expanded her operations at MediaCityUK, from an ice cream trike to three food outlets dotted across the city.
Carla’s passion is food and like her other food venues, Penelope’s Deli will offer a range of tasty treats from barista coffee to home-made sandwiches, cakes and outdoor catering.
It will open in late August (date TBC), with operational hours from 8am to 4pm Mon – Sat (Sunday’s on event days).
Talking about her new venture Carla, said: “The team and I are insanely excited about opening Penelope’s Deli, as it has given me the chance to promote members of our hard working team and to expand even further. Penelope’s Deli aims to create a communal breakout space for our media workers and many visitors on site. We’ll have a very affordable and simple home-made breakfast and lunch menu using ingredients from the best local suppliers, with a children’s menu for our mini visitors. The space will be interactive with writing tables, music, social columns and fun games. Our new kitchen space which will enable us to expand our event and office catering – which has been extremely popular. MediaCityUK occupiers have been incredibly supportive since and hopefully they will continue to support us with our latest venture”.
Gemma Luty, property asset manager said: “It is wonderful to see an independent retailer expanding and offering new concepts to our community. Carla’s venues have quickly gained a very loyal following from our community and she has been able to create employment opportunities, as well as supporting local businesses. Her new venture is in a great location at the front of the Studios (open centre) and we hope to see her capitalise on the passing trade and bring a new vibrancy to the place”.
Carla started her Penelope’s Ice Cream venture after she had been made redundant and been through a traumatic year looking after her young son who had been in hospital. Her goal was to be able to run a business that enabled her to work flexible hours and spend more time with her family.
Quickly followed Dock Grill, then Penelope’s Kitchen,(located within the Pie Factory at MediaCityUK), Love Conquers All and Penelope’s Deli.
Penelope’s Kitchen is an American themed eatery. It offers a range of hearty cooked breakfasts, pancakes, omelettes and bagels through to Carla’s signature hearty burgers, mac and cheese, chilli, sandwiches, toasties and soup.
Love Conquers All is nestled between the home of ITV in the Orange Tower and The Greenhouse, is a licensed coffee house that specialises in serving up organic coffee, artisan teas as well as independent beers, wines, seasonal cocktails including a MediaCityUK inspired cocktail menu.
