2026 marks 100 years since Salford was officially granted city status by Royal Charter, and the entire year is being dedicated to celebrating the people, places and stories that shaped the city’s past century — and the future it’s building next.
The centenary programme spans major cultural moments, community‑led events, exhibitions, heritage projects and civic celebrations, reflecting Salford’s evolution from industrial powerhouse to a modern global city known for creativity, innovation and resilience.

- 100 Objects Exhibition – Salford Museum & Art Gallery 100 groups and individuals from across Salford have selected objects and artworks that tell the city’s story, forming a major exhibition marking the centenary. Free to visit.
- Salford in the Second World War – IWM North Talks from Salford residents Brian and Norma, sharing lived experiences of the Blitz, evacuation and VE Day celebrations.
