Over 40 volunteers as well as local schoolchildren dug deep at the green space in Clifton, Salford, in support of charity City of Trees during National Tree Week.

Organisations including the BBC, Carbon Creative, Zeal Creative, Viridor, Mason Advisory, JTI, Extravision, Peel Media Limited and CVP North helped to plant the trees at the Forestry Commission owned site as part of MediaCityUK’s ‘lasting legacy’ project.

More trees will be planted at the site in early 2019, with around 700 trees taking root in total.

The planting took place during National Tree Week which runs from 24th November – 2nd December, and is the UK’s largest annual tree celebration marking the start of the winter planting season.

In addition almost £3,000 of much-needed funds for the Salford-based environmental charity City of Trees has been raised by MediaCityUK businesses, with every £10 helping to plant a tree.

Branding and website design agency Carbon Creative and clients also supported the initiative by donating 1,500 trees which will take root in sites across Greater Manchester.

Pupils from St Lukes CE Primary School and St Charles RC Primary school also came down to help sow the new saplings.

Kevin Wigley from City of Trees comments; “City of Trees has an ambitious vision to plant 3million trees across Greater Manchester – one for every man, woman and child in the city region. We’re thrilled by the support of MediaCityUK and partners for their amazing fundraising and planting efforts!”.

Jennifer Davies, Estates Manager for MediaCityUK said: “We launched our commitment to City of Trees in February this year and we have been overwhelmed with support. Organisations from across MediaCityUK have sponsored the initiative, donated trees and volunteered to plant them. It will leave a fantastic green legacy for the people of Salford.”

Kate Hadfield, Studio Director from Carbon Creative said: “We have been planting trees across parks, woodlands and schools in Greater Manchester for over 12 years now and are always on the lookout for more green spaces. This was a brilliant opportunity, bringing together our team, clients and neighbours from MediaCityUK to plant so many of our trees. Everyone got stuck in and really enjoyed the day. Thank you City of Trees for organising such a great event, we are looking forward to regularly visiting Clifton and watching them grow!”
