MediaCityUK is the only destination in the north of England to be shortlisted in the coveted 'Place of the Year' category for 'The Pineapples Awards'.
The prestigious awards run by The Developer magazine and Design Council celebrate thriving places, where people want to live, work, play, shop or learn.
As well as being shortlisted for Place of the Year, MediaCityUK’s unique arts and hospitality concept – Box on the Docks, which evolved to create a safe dining haven throughout the pandemic – doubling as an immersive art trail, is in the running for best activation of space.
MediaCityUK’s Place Director, Josie Cahill said:
“It’s been 10 years since the first broadcast came out of MediaCityUK and to be recognised as one of the UK’s best places is a very exciting moment in MediaCityUK’s evolution. As well as being a hub for the creative, digital and tech sectors, it now has a thriving community of not only workers but students, residents and visitors with families particularly enjoying its gardens and open spaces.
“Despite the pandemic MediaCityUK has continued to attract a vibrant independent scene with the likes of Vertigo, Seven Brothers, the General Store and Chapati Café all committing and having confidence in MediaCityUK even during unsettling times. There’s a real buzz and vibrancy at the minute and the phenomenal success of Box on the Docks has played a big part in MediaCityUK’s growing popularity as a visitor destination. To have that officially recognised is really exciting.”
