The Alchemist launches at MediaCityUK
The Alchemist, ‘Manchester’s favourite cocktail bar’, has revealed its most impressive venture to date with the UK’s first ever gold…
As well as supporting JLL’s nominated charity, the Starlight Children’s Foundation, organisers have confirmed that proceeds from this year’s event will go to Tim’s nominated charity, The Christie. Money raised will specifically go towards research into melanoma – the disease which Tim battled for some years.
Tim’s beloved 11 year old nephew, Jett Bacon tragically died in the same week as his uncle, from a rare form of bone cancer. Jett was cared for at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital on Ward 84, the Paediatric Oncology Department. Jett’s family want to help to enhance the environment for the children during this difficult time. Monies raised will therefore be shared with the Melanoma Research Fund and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to help purchase state-of-the-art chemotherapy infusion pump units in memory of Jett.
The JLL Property Triathlon North is open to anyone in, or connected to, the property industry with the sprint event comprising a 750-metre swim in the clear waters of dock 9, a 20 kilometre bike ride and a five kilometre run which takes in MediaCityUK’s iconic sites including the BBC, Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry Theatre. Now in its second year, individuals or relay teams can enter the race and organisers are anticipating around 800 competitors, from complete novices to more seasoned athletes, taking part.
Stephen Wild, Managing Director of MediaCityUK said: “As many have said, Tim was a pioneer in transforming Manchester’s bar and restaurant scene – if it wasn’t for his flair and instinctive talent, some of the best known venues such as The Alchemist, Australasia, The Botanist and Manchester House would not exist, and I’m certain the city wouldn’t be as vibrant as it is today. He truly was a property personality who went about business in friendly, open and honest way – it is particularly poignant that the race will start where the recently announced Alchemist will open in 2017.”
Steve Hogg, director from JLL, added: “It is very fitting, given Tim’s immense impact on the Manchester property market that this year’s JLL Property Triathlon North will be in his honour. Our industry is well known for its support of charitable activities and we hope this news will encourage even more people to help us raise vital funds either by signing up to take part, making a personal donation or simply coming down on the day to cheer on their colleagues.”
Jeremy Roberts, chief executive officer of Living Ventures said: “We were taken aback when the team behind the JLL Property Triathlon North wanted to dedicate it to Tim’s memory. It is heart-warming to see the appreciation that property professionals have for Tim’s vision and impact on the city. The Christie and The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital are close to the family’s heart and we would encourage people to get involved in the day to help raise vital funds.
“It is fitting that the swimming section of the race will commence just in front of the site where The Alchemist will be situated, a bar and restaurant that Tim was so instrumental in designing and we are confident that it will become a vibrant addition to the MediaCityUK community.”
