BBC North and MediaCityUK is gearing up for its Sustainability Season which will run from Monday, 26 February to Friday, 2 March.
The season is about inspiring and challenging us to live and work more sustainably and the team at MediaCityUK has been working with the BBC to create a schedule of events and workshops to encourage our community to get on board and make an on-going commitment to sustainability.
The week will be kick-started with a social media campaign on what we already do at MediaCityUK and what our commitment is for the future.
A wide variety of interesting workshops and seminars are set to take place including:
Monday, 26th February, Arrive, 4th Floor, The Hub, White @ lunchtime
Members of Unicorn’s Co-operative will be hosting a 30-minute talk on sustainable food sourcing, increasing the amount of land farmed sustainably and improving the environmental impact of our diet. Example hampers and giveaways.
Tuesday, 27th February, Arrive, 4th Floor, The Hub, White @ 9:30am and 10:30am
BBC Fringe Event – Climate Change in 30 minutes with BBC weather presenter Simon King.
Wednesday, 28th February, 6th Floor, Tomorrow @ 11:30am – 12:00pm
BBC Fringe Event – ‘If You Only Do 3 Things’ with Emma Peddie, BBC Sustainability Team.
WWF Carbon Footprint Calculator – social media campaign to follow if you only do three things. Encouraging tenants to take part in the carbon calculator, sharing their results alongside their pledges.
Thursday, 1st March, The Piazza
Viridor Recycling workshop – Viridor will be parking their recycling truck on the Piazza (time TBC) with interactive stalls, quizzes and give-aways. Local schools, Willow Tree, UTC and Pure Innovations will be attending.
Thursday, 1st March, Arrive, 4th Floor – The Hub, White @ 12noon
Blackburn House – Bee You project tutor will be hosting a seminar on why our bees are so important, how we can help increase the population.
Friday, 2nd March
Great British Spring Clean – Keep Britain Tidy. Residents and occupiers will team up to litter pick across Broadway and surrounding areas. Litter picked will be brought to the Piazza and collected by Viridor / Salford council. Meet at Tomorrow, 11am, 12pm and 1pm.

It’s a great way of boosting awareness among the community and for the future we’re looking at an exciting joint initiative with City of Trees, the BBC and Carbon Creative to create a fundraising scheme to encourage donations towards the planting of trees in the Salford area.”
