University of Salford to support UKFast 10K at MediaCityUK

The University of Salford and the UKFast City of Salford 10K are now official partners for the 2017 10K race at MediaCityUK, in what is their 50th year anniversary.

Kevin Harmer, UK Events & Sponsorship Manager said“We here at Sports Tours International are delighted to be working with the University of Salford this year in what is a year of great celebration for them. Both staff and students alike will be getting involved as runners, volunteers and via work experience on the race day. We are really pleased to engage with another of Salford’s key organisations to further develop the ‘Salford feel’ of the race and to help the Universities students to raise money for charity while keeping healthy and active”.

The event takes place on Sunday 3rd September, when over 3,500 runners are expected to take on the 10k route which takes in some of the most iconic landmarks in the area including MediaCityUK, Imperial War Museum, Coronation Street Studios and Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United Football Club.

Professor Helen Marshall, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford, said: “We are delighted to be associated with such a prominent event and to work collaboratively to provide new opportunities for University students and staff. Working together, we can promote sport and wellbeing amongst the whole Salford community.”

Hazel Taylor, Head of Facilities Sport & Accommodation Estates and Property Services, at the University of Salford, added: “The UKFast City of Salford 10k is an amazing platform for the Team Salford brand and we can’t wait to explore the many opportunities that this partnership offers.”

Over the past 18 months the University has invested heavily in facilities and initiatives encouraging students to adopt healthy lifestyles and to engage and contribute to the local community, so involvement in the UKFast City of Salford 10k will further push these important messages.

Since its inception in 2008, the UKFast City of Salford 10k has grown in size rapidly and with the help of a number of local businesses and organisations such as Salford City Council.

In 2017 main sponsors UKFast, Salford City Council, Therapy First Physiotherapy, Jacksons Trophies and three Official Charity Partners which are The Christie, Cash For Kids and The Diane Modahl Sports Foundation will help to continue its growth as it becomes one of the biggest and best mass participation running events in the north west.
