A day in the life. Meet David Adewole, Events Co-ordinator at the Home of Skills & Technology (HOST).  Find out how an impulsive relocation from London turned his life around and led to the job of his dreams.

“It was summer 2020, we were still in the grips of lockdown #1 and it’s fair to say I was stuck in a rut, in a dead end job with no real prospects. After working in the hospitality industry for 10 years and with it being impacted the most during these times, I knew something had to change for my true potential to be unlocked. I decided I would take a leap of faith and relocate to Manchester as soon as the restrictions allowed.”

By January 2021, David was renting a room in Whalley Range and working in a Covid testing centre when he spotted an ad for the Skill’s City bootcamps at HOST. It sounded like a great chance to up-skill, as well as an opportunity to begin an interesting tech career with real prospects. Something I had tried many times in London but with no luck,” David says.

“My application was successful and for the next three months I juggled my job in the test centre with following the AWS (Amazon Web Services) re/Start skills bootcamp. It was hard work but I was thriving on learning new skills including how to create a website using AWS services, cloud architecture and even a currency converter using programming languages.”

“After speaking about my experience at Digital City Festival and a chance meeting with Mo Isap , CEO of IN4 Group, the operator of HOST, I was offered a junior tech consultant role before successfully getting the Events Co-ordinator job within HOST Social.

“I absolutely love my job; the people are the best part, from liaising with clients to suppliers. Everyone is so friendly, open and positive – I think MediaCity feeds this positive energy. People are genuinely so happy to be here.”
